The Anti-Corruption Commission has this year arrested 71 individuals on various corruption charges and secured eight (8) convictions.
Anti-Corruption Commission Head Corporate Communications Timothy Moono informed the media during a Media Conference held on 30th November 2022, that by end of November 2022, the Commission had a total of 1,264 cases under investigations and of these 284 cases have been concluded.
He said over five million people have been sensitized on corruption through various public education activities. He said in the last quarter, the Commission had nineteen (19) cases before the courts of law, three (3) cases were pending judgement, eight (8) were appealed and four (4) convictions were secured.
Mr. Moono also disclosed that the Commission had restricted US$ 216,000 money that was wired to Chief Nkana through suspicious transactions and a further US$ US$ 3,474,150.00 belonging to Savenda Systems Limited was also restricted as it was about to be moved from a local account. The restrictions were carried out in the wake of investigations the Commission is conducting.
Mr. Moono informed the media that the Commission has increased the number of Toll-Free lines on each mobile network to three lines giving the total access lines to nine (9) from (3) three to enable ease of access to the Commission by the public and encourage reporting of corruption cases.
